Voice Chat - Players unable to communicate via in-game voice chat to their crew

If you are unable to communicate via the in-game voice chat system with your crew members, please try the following:

 

Confirming Voice Chat permission for your Xbox Live account (All Platforms)

  • Proceed to https://www.xbox.com
  • Select Sign In from the top right hand corner
  • Click your Xbox Live gamertag in the top right hand corner and select Xbox Profile
  • When viewing your account, select Privacy Settings 
  • From the 'Privacy' section ensure 'Others can communicate with voice, text or invites' and 'People outside of Xbox Live can communicate with voice and text' are set to either 'Allow' or 'Friends Only'

 

Windows - Check correct audio input and output devices are selected

  • Boot Sea of Thieves and press the Windows Key then type "Sound Mixer Options"
  • From the System section, ensure Output and Input devices are set to your desired device
  • As Sea of Thieves is loading, it will also show in the Apps section. Select Sea of Thieves and ensure Output and Input devices are also set to your desired device. Once confirmed, close the Volume mixer

Then

  • Press the Windows Key + G to open the Game Bar then click Audio from the top task bar
  • Ensure that the Windows Default Input, Default Communications Output and Default Communication Input are all set to your desired device.

 

Xbox Console - Check correct audio input and output devices are selected

To check your audio input and output settings, press the Xbox button to open the guide. Then select Profile & system > Settings > General > Volume & audio output

PlayStation®5 - Controller Speakers volume check

If you are using the Controller Speakers to output voice chat, ensure that the volume setting has not been muted / set to zero. To check this please see the following article:

Changing the Crew Chat Output setting in-game

After confirming the above is correctly set for both your audio input / output devices, as well as your Xbox Live account privileges, any crew chat issues should now be resolved. If the issue persists:

  • From the Game Settings menu select Audio.
  • Scroll down to the 'Crew Chat Output' options and switch between Speakers and Headphones
