If you are suddenly receiving a crash on boot for the Steam version of Sea of Thieves, please try the following:
(Steam Only)
These steps are not required if you are running the Window Store version of Sea of Thieves.
If you’re experiencing a crash on starting, please try running this file:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Steamworks Shared\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2022\VC_redist.x64.exe
Specifically the file in the 2022 directory with x64 in the name, you do not need to run the x86 version or versions from any other directory.
If this still does not work, please download and run it fresh from here:
https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x64.exe
If you see “Modify Setup” click Repair.
If you are still having issues, contact Sea of Thieves support and send ReliabilityEvents.csv from %localappdata%\Athena\.
You can bring up the “Run” box with Windows Key + R then paste it in and press enter to get there quickly.
